Via Verde Portugal
Most of our suppliers provide a Via Verde device in their rental cars. A small daily fee applies to keep the device active, and toll charges will be processed after the car is returned. This may take a few days, as the rental company must wait for the toll data. If you choose not to activate the device but still use toll roads, you may be charged for the tolls at the end of your rental, along with an administrative penalty fee.
SunPass Florida
Suppliers generally require renters to activate e-tolls through them. This comes with a daily activation fee, and any toll charges incurred will be billed at the end of the rental period. The toll device is not removable from the vehicle, and renters can not use their own devices. If you decline the e-toll service but use toll roads, a penalty fee may be added to the cost of each unpaid or paid toll. In states like Florida—where toll roads are widespread and often unavoidable—it’s essential to activate the device at the time of vehicle pick-up.
Toll Roads in Italy and Other Countries
For toll roads that do not require an electronic toll device, payment is made on the spot. These costs are not included in the rental price.
Vignette in Europe (e.g. Switzerland, Austria, and the Czech Republic)
If you pick up your rental car in one of these countries, the vignette (road tax sticker) is usually included. However, if you cross into one of these countries from another location, you’ll need to purchase the vignette yourself, either online or at the border.
